Right away, you’ll notice several unusual characters. This format is a key indicator of AI-generated content, designed to bypass spam filters and confuse recipients. Let’s go step-by-step through the obvious red flags that make this message a clear scam.
Red Flags: How to Identify This Scam
1. Suspicious Characters and Formatting
The text contains letters that are distorted or mismatched, making the message appear off-balance. Proper communications from legitimate organizations would not include such formatting. Scammers use this technique to bypass security filters and make it harder for users to immediately identify the message as spam.
2. MTO Does Not Send Texts About Parking Tickets
The Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) does not send text messages about unpaid parking tickets. All communications related to traffic violations are typically sent through mail or via official municipal channels.

- According to the scam text, the parking ticket was issued on August 24, 2024, yet the message is being sent on October 24, 2024 with a warning to pay by October 26, 2024.

The scam warns about “legal action with a court order” if the ticket is not paid. However, this is not how parking ticket penalties work in Ontario. Here’s what really happens:

- After 40 days, the ticket enters default, and a Notice of Default is issued with the total amount due.

The scam directs users to a website: transport-unsettled-ticket(dot)com (Do NOT visit this link).
